Prep Hockey: Rock Ridge boys, Duluth Marshall girls squeeze out section wins

On Thursday the Rock Ridge boys and Duluth Marshall girls hockey teams each earned narrow 2-1 victories over section foes.

Rock Ridge defeated Duluth Denfeld 2-1 at the Essentia Duluth Heritage Center. Nolan Harju scored first for Denfeld in the second period, then Grady Dimberio tied it up for Rock Ridge.

With the win the Wolverines secure the Section 7AA series sweep over the Hunters having earned a 3-1 win in December. Rock Ridge improves to 15-4-1 and next hosts Duluth East Saturday at 7 p.m. Denfeld (9-9-1) next hosts Brainerd Tuesday at 7 p.m.

The Duluth Marshall girls defeated Moose Lake Area 2-1 at Mars Lakeview Arena in a Section 7A clash. Sarah Stauber scored first for the Hilltoppers, then the Rebels’ Megan Hattenberger tied it up in the first. Nina Thorson scored the game-winner for Duluth in the second period. In net, Moose Lake’s goaltender Mallory Hartl made 40 saves, while Aurelia Anderson made 25 for the Hilltoppers.

Duluth Marshall rebounds from just their second loss to sit 18-2-1. They next rematch the Rebels (11-10-1) Monday in Moose Lake at 7 p.m.
