Prep Basketball: Grand Rapids girls hold off Superior for Conference title, No. 3 Cherry boys fall at No. 1 Cass Lake-Bena

On Thursday the third ranked Grand Rapids girl’s basketball team held off ninth ranked Superior 59-50 to earn the Lake Superior Conference title.

Picking up their 22nd win in a row the Thunderhawks snapped the Spartan’s 18 game win streak.

Grand Rapids (22-2) will host Esko Tuesday for their second-to-last regular season game. Superior (20-2) visits Hibbing for their regular season finale Monday.

Cherry boy’s basketball, ranked third in Class A in the state, fell to top-ranked Cass Lake-Bena on the road 57-52. Isaac Asuma led the Tigers with 18 points.

Next Cherry (17-4) will host Northland Tuesday.
