Northland's Sathers, Stricker become National Champions over the weekend

Over the weekend two Northland natives became NCAA national champions.

Proctor’s own Braelyn Sathers, a Mirage hockey alum, is now a senior at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. On Sunday she helped the Falcons to a 4-1 win over Elmira College to win the NCAA DIII women’s hockey championship.

UW-River Falls completes their 25th anniversary season 31-0 as first-time national champions.

A junior at UW-Eau Claire, Ashland native Jared Stricker is also a national champion now.

On Saturday, the former Oredocker wrestled to victory in the 174 pound finals to win a NCAA DIII title. It was in revenge fashion, as he defeated Wartburg’s Zane Mulder who bested Stricker in the 2023 national championships.

Stricker finishes his season 42-2, undefeated in Division III matches. He’s only two losses came to DI opponents.
