A third period rally Saturday wasn’t enough for the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) women’s hockey team to hold off the third ranked Gophers, suffering the season sweep to Minnesota.

The Bulldogs said they didn’t feel they played their best, however liked the rebound in game two after falling 3-1 on Friday then 4-3 on Saturday.

Seventh ranked UMD (19-8-1) now prepares for their third-to-last regular season series at Minnesota State University-Mankato this weekend.

“They’re good on entries and they have a decent power play, so not disimilar from Minnesota’s approach. Minnesota is good on entries and they got us on a couple plays that developed off of entry. At this point in the season those are the areas that we really want to be locked in on,” UMD head coach Maura Crowell said.

UMD earned the early season sweep over the Mavericks in their first meeting back in week three winning 2-1 in overtime then 2-0.

Puck drop Friday is set for 3 p.m. in Mankato and Saturday at 2 p.m.
