On Thursday the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) introduced Forrest Karr as their next Director of Intercollegiate Athletics after making the initial announcement on Wednesday.

The former Northern Michigan University (NMU) Athletic Director spoke to the UMD community on why he choose Bulldog Country as his next stop.

“Northern Michigan Univeristy competes against the University of Minnesota Duluth in non-conference games,” Karr said, explaning his familiarity with the department’s operations. “I like to watch things like how are the coaches coaching, and how do they treat their players, and I just have a lot of respect for these coaches at Duluth. Just said that to myself time and time again that these are people that I would like to work with.”

At NMU Karr helped start five new athletic programs, but also stressed academic importance for the Bulldogs. Additionally he shared that Duluth offers great opportunities for his wife and two daughters.

One of those in attendance and his introductory press conference Thursday was Bulldog athletic legend Karen Stromme. She will now officially begin her retirement after returning to serve as UMD’s Interim Athletic Director.
