Despite scoring three goals in the first period Thursday, the North American Hockey League’s (NAHL) Cloquet based Minnesota Wilderness would fall 5-4 to the Springfield Jr. Blues at Northwoods Credit Union Arena.

Hermantown native Beau Janzig scored the Wilderness’ final goal of the first period to lead 3-0 at intermission. The Wilderness then allowed two goals in the second, but Peteris Purmalis split them for the 4-2 Wilderness lead after the second. However, in the third St. Louis scored three more to steal the 5-4 win.

The Wilderness, with 61 points, now sit one point outside of the final playoff spot trailing the Chippewa Steel with 62 points.

This is the Wilderness’ final home series of the regular season. Their series finale with Springfield is Friday at 7:15 p.m. back at Northwoods Credit Union Arena. They will close out their regular season next weekend visiting Springfield.
