Hockey Day Minnesota festivities start Thursday in Warroad

The puck drops on the annual Hockey Day Minnesota celebrations this Thursday in one of the most iconic hockey towns, Warroad. The statewide hockey ‘holiday’ dates back to 2007.

High school games, and even a college game between Concordia College-Moorhead and St. Olaf Friday, will be played outside throughout the three day event.

Saturday, January 27 is the official Hockey Day. The festivities begin with the Warroad vs. Lakeville North girls teams facing off at 9:30 a.m. That is followed by a Moorhead vs. Wayzata boys battle at 1:00 p.m. Then Warroad and Roseau boys conclude the action with puck drop at 4:30 p.m.

Friday at 9 p.m. there will be a public skate with ‘The Hockey Guys’, a popular TikTok group created by former University of Wisconsin-Superior hockey players.

Bally Sports North’s broadcast event will feature over 16 hours of original hockey programming beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 27. Coverage will include the three live outdoor games from Warroad Athletic Complex, followed by a Minnesota Wild game during primetime. The regional sports network will show highlights from all Hockey Day games taking place throughout the weekend and incorporate coverage of the outdoor festivities taking place at Warroad Athletic Complex in Warroad.
