Hibbing/Chisholm retires Adam Johnson’s jersey, defeats Duluth Denfeld in emotional matchup

Hibbing retires Adam Johnson’s number, beats Duluth Denfeld

The Hibbing Bluejackets had a full range of emotions on Tuesday night, as they retired Adam Johnson's jersey and beat Duluth Denfeld 6-2.

A full range of emotions were on display at the Hibbing Memorial Building on Tuesday night, as the Bluejackets officially retired the late Adam Johnson’s jersey, making sure that no Bluejacket would ever wear the number 7 again.

The night was started with player introductions, followed by a presentation of Johnson’s jersey to his family. Later, the ceremonial puck drop, and then the moment the crowd was waiting patiently for, the unveiling of the #7 jersey on the wall.

The game then started, and it wasn’t the way the Bluejackets would have liked, as they gave up a shorthanded goal to Valtteri Luhtalampi, making it 1-0 Duluth Denfeld.

The Bluejackets would then explode in the second period, scoring four goals to the Hunters one, making the score 4-2.

The Bluejackets would then add two more goals in the third period, leading to a final score of 6-2.

For Hibbing/Chisholm, Jack Gabardi and Isaiah Hildenbrand were the team leaders with two goals each, while Kelin Elsner and Hunter Gustavsson added a goal as well.

The Bluejackets take on Totino-Grace on Saturday, while the Hunters face Cloquet/Esko/Carlton on Thursday.
