Hermantown boy’s hockey wins fifth straight Section 7A championship

The top-seeded Hermantown Hawks boy’s hockey team were crowned Section 7A champions on Wednesday night, beating third seeded Hibbing/Chisholm 4-0 at AMSOIL Arena.

The Hawks came out firing, as Will Esterbrooks scored just four minutes into game action.

The Bluejackets were on the power play going into the second period, but couldn’t knot the game up before Charlie Marchand scored with just over seven minutes left in the second period to extend their lead to 2-0.

The Hawks would strike again just minutes later, as AJ Francisco found the back of the net to give Hermantown a 3-0 advantage going into the third period.

In the third, both teams had opportunities, but it was Ford Skytta who put the game officially out of reach, when he scores Hermantown’s fourth goal with just over three minutes in the game.

Aside from the offense that the Hawks put up, their goaltender, Dane Callaway, was unstoppable, pitching a shutout and keeping Hermantown’s lead afloat.

The Hawks now turn to the state tournament in St. Paul, where they will await their opponent.
