Hermantown boy’s hockey flies high in home opener

Hermantown boy's hockey would beat Centennial on Saturday, 5-0.

The Hermantown boy’s hockey home opener has been long awaited since the conclusion of the 2022-2023 season, and it didn’t disappoint, as the Hawks beat Centennial 5-0 on Saturday.

The Hawks immediately flexed their muscle in the first period, as Andrew Johnson scored a short handed goal just seven minutes in. Then, minutes later, Joshua Kauppinen scored another goal to extend the lead to 2-0.

Interestingly enough, the Hawks would go scoreless in the second period, but their defense also held Centennial scoreless.

In the third period is where the offensive explosion happened, though, as three Hawks scored. First it was Bradford Skytta just three minutes into the period.

Later, River Freeman and Andrew Johnson scored just over two minutes apart, separating Hermantown from Centennial for good.

The Hawks next play Duluth Marshall on December 12th.
