Grand Rapids/Greenway girls hockey advances to Section 7AA semifinals, Duluth falls in quarterfinals

In the Section 7AA girls hockey quarterfinals played Thursday, second seeded Grand Rapids/Greenway shut out seventh seeded Northern Tier 5-0, while eighth seeded Duluth fell 8-0 to top-seeded Andover.

Five different scorers lit the lamp for Grand Rapids/Greenway (GRG) in their home victory. Mercury Bischoff scored first in the first period, then in the second period Mira Rajala made it 2-0 on a power play. In the third Ryleigh Sherlock, Taelyn Pomplun, and Kylie DeBay all registered goals in their 5-0 win.

Riley Toivonen made 17 saves in net for the Lightning. GRG (16-9-1) advances to host third seeded Blaine in the semifinals Saturday at 5 p.m.

Visiting Andover, the Duluth Northern Stars would fall 8-0 in their Section 7AA quarterfinal. Still, Duluth netminder Chloe Clark registered an impressive 43 saves. The Northern Stars finish their season 9-16-1.
