Grand Rapids girls basketball falls in Class AAA State quarterfinals

On Wednesday the No. 5 Grand Rapids girls basketball team met their match in No. 4 Stewartville falling 71-57 in the Class AAA state quarterfinals at the University of Minnesota’s Maturi Pavilion.

This marked the Thunderhawks’ third straight state trip and their third quarterfinal loss, ending their 26 game win streak.

Grand Rapids kept it close trailing just 35-29 at halftime, but were outshot 36-28 in the second half falling 71-57.

Jessika Lofstrom led the Thunderhawks with 18 points, tying Stewartville’s Ella Theobald for the game-high. Rapids had four players break into double digits with Amanda Scherping scoring 14, Katelyn Jamtgaard with 11, and Braya LaPlant with 10.

Grand Rapids (26-3) will next play Marshall (21-10) in the consolation semifinals Thursday at 2 p.m. For the Class AAA bracket, Click Here.
