Giants Ridge Pepsi Challenge/Great River Energy Rush races canceled

It was announced on Monday the 2024 Pepsi Challenge and Great River Energy Rush races at Giants Ridge have been canceled.

The races included the Pepsi Challenge 50K, Great River Energy Rush 25K, and Giants Ridge 8K Nordic Ski Races. They were set to take place Saturday, March 2.

A release sent by East Range Cross Country Challenges, Inc. read as follows:

Hello Skiers:

Unfortunately, we have been forced to cancel this year’s Races due to a severely low snow base on the Trails at Giants Ridge.  Rain, instead of snow last week, with little snow forecast for the next 10 to 14 days leave no hope of adding another foot of snow to the icy, dirty 1 to 3 inch base. We have cancelled three races in forty years; one for temperature, one for the pandemic and now lack of snow. Hopefully, the cycle is complete.

We will review our financial outlook during the next couple of weeks to determine what we will offer pre-registered participants as a credit or refund.

We thank you for your interest and support! All that we can do now is look forward to 2025 and a real Winter.
