The National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) returns to Brainerd International Raceway (BIR) this weekend for the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals.

One of the drivers hitting the course at 330 miles per hour will be defending Funny Car world champion Ron Capps.

“You can see the smile on my face whenever we start talking about the Brainerd race. It is a great race of course but everything that goes on around the race is kind of what makes Brainerd special,” Capps shared. “With what we call the ‘Zoo’, which is an incredible campground, they have thousands, probably hundred thousand, fans right next to the track.”

Capps also explained the division he is racing in, Funny Cars, are labeled that way for the drag racing vehicle’s unique body. This also marks his first year as a team owner.

Races the BIR begin this Friday and run through Sunday. For the full schedule, click here.
