Skiers from across the great state of Minnesota hit the snow today at Giants Ridge in Biwabik for the 2023 Alpine Ski State Meet.

The big story today was the conditions. As last year, the teams had to deal with frigid temperatures, this year athletes had to deal with temps in the high thirties. Along with the added challenge of rain, still that didn’t deter our Northland stars.

The top Northland finisher for the boy’s was Cook County’s Ray Dressley, who in his third state appearance, finished one spot shy of the podium in fourth place with a combined time of 1:15.87.

“Little bit wet today but I think it helped a little bit actually. I knew my first run I was in fourth and I had a pretty big margin between those guys, so I just didn’t want to lose my position in fourth,” said Dressley.

Cook County’s success continued into the girl’s side of things as the Northlands top 20 finisher was junior Kalina Dimitrova, with a combined time of 1:20.54.

“I’m really proud of everyone today and our whole team. We made it as a team first place and I finished third at Section. So really happy to be here, just to ski my best and have a good time. It’s really just a great experience all around,” claimed Dimitrova.

The state meet concludes this year’s Alpine ski season with Wednesday and Thursday concluding the Nordic Ski year with their state meet beginning at 11:00 a.m.
