Monday marked day one of practice for fall sports teams in Minnesota.

Cloquet football kicked off on their practice field nestled just behind what will be their brand new home: the Members Cooperative Credit Union Sports Complex. It will replace the currently existing grass field and track.

However, the turf field won’t be ready until late September to mid-October meaning the Lumberjacks’ early home games will be held at Proctor’s Egerdahl Field.

“I think we’ve traditionally been a pretty good team on the road,” second year head coach Jeff Ojanen said. “I think our kids really take on the challenge of making sure that they’re prepared. It’s nice to be away from home a little bit because there’s no distractions, you’re with your teammates and coaches.”

Senior outside linebacker Warren Hietala added, “I think that we can just go out there and just keep playing as a team. No matter where we are, we’ll play as hard as we can.”

The Lumberjacks had a great turnout Monday welcoming over 70 kids to the first day of practice.

They kickoff their season Friday, September 1 visiting Two Harbors. Cloquet finished 7-4 last season in the Section 7AAAA title game.
