Exactly seven months ago on March 20, 2022 the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) women’s hockey team finished as runners up in the NCAA championship game falling 3-2 to Ohio State University (OSU) at Penn State.

This Friday the Bulldogs and Buckeyes will meet for the first time since that title clash in Ohio.

“The experience that we had, I think you end up with a little bit of a chip on your shoulder, something to prove when you didn’t get the ultimate prize,” UMD head coach Maura Crowell said. “I think we’re hungry, but always keeping it in check is important too.”

“You know they’re going to give it their all too,” graduate forward Taylor Anderson added. “Every single player on that team is going to be aggressive and fast so we need to play to that level to be able to match them. We can’t go in there and just expect to dance around with the puck, we have to know what we’re doing going in the zone and we have to play tough.”

Both teams enter this weekend with perfect 6-0 records.

Puck drop between No. 4 UMD and No. 1 OSU Friday is at 6 p.m. and Saturday is set for 3 p.m. in Columbus, Ohio.
