Bulldog football excited to host first season opener since 2019

The University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) football team kicks off their 2022 season Thursday night facing Southwest Minnesota State University.

This marks the first time the Bulldogs have hosted their season opener since 2019.

“It’s always a great time playing at home for the first game,” 5th year quarterback Garrett Olson shared. “Having the fans and the atmosphere here at Malosky Stadium, it’s hard to beat. I’m just really excited honestly.”

“It’s a great feeling everytime we can strap it up at Malosky,” Brad Dati, a senior linebacker, said. “It’s a great feeling playing in front of a home crowd, home opener, and excited to have the family up here. It will be a good time.”

The Bulldogs have played the Mustangs three times since 2014, most recently in 2018, going 2-1 in the series while winning both games in Duluth.

Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at Malosky Stadium.
