The University of Minnesota at Duluth women’s basketball team is just under two weeks away from its season opener.

Brooke Olson, who lead UMD last season in rebounds and points with 522, has returned for a fifth season alongside fellow graduate student Maesyn Thiesen, who was third in scoring and fourth in rebounds last winter.

The Bulldogs however are missing three starters from last season’s national tournament run in Sarah Grow, Payton Kahl, and Ann Simonet.

“You know, obviously, you have kind of the same leaders for three years, and I got really comfortable. So, it’s been good for me to develop different types of leadership relationships with other players,” said head coach Mandy Pearson.

Brooke Olson mentioned that “a lot of different people are going to have to step up, which is really exciting just having fresh faces.”

UMD opens up its season on November 5 facing Missouri Western in Kansas City for the D2CCA Women’s Basketball Tip-Off Classic.
