On Saturday the 2023-2024 general inland fishing season will open in the State of Wisconsin.

No matter where anglers decide to fish, all residents and non-residents over the age of 16 are required to purchase an official fishing license.

So what can our Northland anglers expect from opening weekend once they hit the water in less than 24 hours?

“If anglers are hoping to get out on a particular body of water they should be able to. I would expect that no lakes will be iced up by then. Another thing is our ice season was pretty poor. Ice conditions weren’t great, and I think it won’t be too surprised if some of these populations have just a few more fish available for this open water season because they kind of made it through the ice season when normally they maybe would have got harvested,” said DNR Fisheries Biologist Nate Thomas.

The State of Wisconsin has more than 13,000 miles of trout streams, with nearly 5,400 class 1 trout streams.
