#2 UMD Women’s basketball sees first action of 2023-2024 season in exhibition game

The #2 UMD Women’s basketball team returned to the court in a big way to start the 2023-2024 season, defeating Lakehead University in an exhibition game, 76-41.

The Bulldogs didn’t waste many opportunities to score, shooting 40% from the field and making 11 of 13 free throws. They also scored 26 points off turnovers, one of the biggest reasons for their win.

Senior guard Taya Hakamaki tied for the lead in total points with 13, while also tallying five total rebounds and three steals.

The Bulldogs head to South Dakota for their next exhibition game against South Dakota State University on Wednesday, Nov. 1.
