18th ranked UMD can’t overcome early deficit, fall to #4 North Dakota

A three goal deficit was too much for the #18 UMD Men's hockey team to overcome, as they lost to #4 North Dakota 4-2 on Friday.

Giving up three goals in the first period wasn’t in the game plan for #18 UMD men’s hockey, but after #4 North Dakota did just that, UMD wouldn’t be able to mount a comeback, losing 4-2 on Friday night.

North Dakota scored just nine minutes into the contest, and then just two minutes after that to get out to a 2-0 lead. The Bulldogs then surrendered a third goal to North Dakota, trailing 3-0 going into the first intermission.

Luke Loheit found the back of the net 12 minutes into the second period to cut the deficit to 3-1. UMD would score again, as Anthony Menghini scored in the third period, putting the Bulldogs just a goal behind the fourth ranked team in the nation.

North Dakota scored a power play goal with 40 seconds left in the contest to end the Bulldogs comeback.

The two teams will face off in AMSOIL Arena again Saturday night at 6:07 p.m..
