#14 UMD Men’s hockey, #6 Minnesota tie in front of sold out crowd

UMD, Minnesota tie in first home game since October 20th

The UMD Men's Hockey team returned home on Saturday for the first time in two weeks to face Minnesota.

In their first home game since October 20th, the #14 UMD Men’s hockey team tied with #6 Minnesota in front of the 6th largest recorded attendance at AMSOIL Arena.

The night began with a tribute to former Bulldog Adam Johnson, including a video and moment of silence, while each of the UMD players wore an “AJ” helmet sticker in remembrance as well.

UMD’s Jack Smith struck first, with not only the first goal of the game but the first of his collegiate career.

After a Cole Spicer goal, the Golden Gophers not only tied the Bulldogs but regained the lead, all within 23 seconds of each other.

UMD entered the third period down, but Ben Steeves sent the equalizer to the back of the net.

The game would officially end in a 3-3 tie, but UMD would win the exhibition shootout.

UMD faces North Dakota next Friday and Saturday at AMSOIL Arena.
