Ontario authorities: Poacher shot moose, left it to rot

Ontario conservation officers are looking for a poacher who shot a bull moose and left it to rot.

The Ontario Ministry of Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources and Forestry says the incident happened on Shadow Creek Road, off Highway 11 about a half-hour drive north of Nipigon. Authorities received a tip about the killing on Oct. 4.

"This kind of waste is appalling to all ethical hunters," the ministry said in a brief news release.

They are asking anyone with information to call Nipigon District Conservation Officers at 807-887-5021 or the ministry TIPS line at 1-877-847-7667. Anonymous tips can be made to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
