Spencer Pierce joined the WDIO team in August of 2023 as a weekend sports anchor/reporter.

Coming from Connecticut, Spencer is excited to learn about the culture of the Northland, as well as meeting the local athletes and telling their stories.

Spencer played sports in high school.

“As an athlete in high school, I would always turn on my local news channel and hope that my name would be mentioned,” said Spencer. “I’m excited for Northland athletes to turn on WDIO and hear their names in highlights or stories.”

Spencer graduated from Syracuse University with a Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast and Digital Journalism from the Newhouse School in May of 2023.

He turned to broadcasting when he realized he wouldn’t be playing college baseball. At Syracuse, he became heavily involved at CitrusTV, the student run television station. There, his love for broadcasting grew immensely and next thing he knew, he ended up 1,000 miles away from home in Duluth.

Spencer loves playing and watching every sport imaginable, but has grown an obsession towards golf within the past year (love-hate relationship).
