Deer River man dies after losing control of car

A Deer River man died after losing control of his car on a snowy and icy highway in Itasca County, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

Twenty-five-year-old Jacob Jeffrey Starck died in a crash last Friday morning on state Highway 46 at County Road 40, west of Deer River. The patrol says Starck was driving southbound and lost control, entering the northbound lanes and colliding with a pickup truck in a T-bone crash.

The three men who were in the pickup, who are from out of the area, suffered injuries that are not life-threatening.

The patrol’s report indicated that Starck was not wearing a seat belt.
