White Winter has been making mead, cider, and spirits in Iron River, Wis., for 27 years.

“We specialize in making mead, which is what we started with, which is the oldest fermented beverage known to humanity,” co-owner and head meadmaker Jon Hamilton said.

Mead is made from honey. Their sweetest mead is made from just honey and water and most like what would have been made in the Middle Ages. They offer a spectrum of flavors from sweet to dry.

Hamilton started by homebrewing and then traveled the country to see how others were making mead and being successful at it.

The next event at White Winter is on May 20: Kevin Kling, a professional storyteller, is coming to do a workshop and evening storytelling session. Summer porch music starts that day too.
