Like so many breweries, Klockow in Grand Rapids got started with the home brew process.

“So we’ve been open for almost six years now. Got started as kind of a home brewing dream, and when I was living in the Twin Cities, got a job working for HammerHeart Brewing,” Andy Klockow said.

The folks at HammerHeart mentored and encouraged him, and he and his wife Tasha launched Klockow.

“A lot of our ingredients are Minnesota-based, even some hops are from Grand Rapids. One of the tanks we have right now is a batch of Grand Rapids hops,” Klockow said.

They are proud to be a community-oriented taproom. The space is warmed up with a giant mural by Bemidji artist Diamond Knispel.

Although the tap list was pretty long, a couple staples include the Upwind Irish Blonde (“Kind of lighter, malt-forward option. It’s called my beer-drinking beer.”) and BHK Nut Brown (“It’s my dad’s initials, and it was one of his favorite styles when we started the brewery. And now he loves hazys.”).
