Superior opens six food waste drop sites

Superior is marking International Compost Awareness Week by opening six food waste drop sites around the city.

People can drop off scraps like fruit and vegetable pits and peels, coffee grounds, spoiled food with packaging removed, and more.

These six locations will have compost drop bins:

  • NWCSA North End (1009 N 6th St.)
  • Billings Park Maintenance Garage parking lot (25 Billings Dr.)
  • Barker’s Island Public Boat Launch
  • Bethel Lutheran Church (5821 John Ave.)
  • Loon’s Foot Boat Landing
  • Bear Creek Park (110 Moccasin Mike Rd.)

Each site also has BPI-certified compost bags for free. Other city offices will also have bags for pickup.

Liquids, grass clippings, leaves, brush, cardboard, and paper products are not allowed.

The food scraps will be taken to WLSSD’s large-scale composting process.
