Successful goals in 2023

We’ve switched our calendars to a new year, but many of us are hoping to make changes beyond that. Nikki Karnowski of Metamorphosis Coaching, Consulting, and Training explained how we can make successful goals in 2023.

First of all, Nikki recommends taking time to reflect: “it’s a great time to assess where we’re at. What went well last year? Where do we want to make those shifts? Why do we want to make those shift. The why can be very helpful.” If a goal is important to you, you’re more likely to make it stick.

And to get to this big goal.. Nikki recommends getting rid of all or nothing thinking. “Really it’s those incremental changes that make such a big difference. We have a big thing in coaching- small steps over time equals big results.” And when take little steps, we should learn to love them.

Nikki also introduces us to something called “habit stacking.” This is another small thing we can do for success. Nikki gives us an example: “I want to add more activity into my day. So when I wait for my coffee- I do ten squats.”

Our goals should be clear and have consistent steps. SMART goals are specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and time-bound. After you know you’re goal is solid- Nikki tells us to write it down and speak it in the present tense. Rather than “I will” use “I am.”
