“It’s basically kind of a big cinnamon roll,” explained James Reed. “They do come with different fillings. The ones that I offer are filled with sweet cream cheese filling.”

King Cakes are a big part of Mardis Gras celebrations and are a very traditional dessert in New Orleans according to Reed.

The cakes feature a three color frosting that represent the three Wise Men and there’s also a small plastic baby imbedded in the cake that represents baby Jesus.

Whoever finds the baby in the cake is said to receive good luck.

“There’s also a saying that says, well, if you find the baby, you have to buy the next King Cake,” said Reed.
