Logan and Brule are North American River Otter brothers who live at the Lake Superior Zoo.

The Lift got to see a training session. Lead Keeper Emily Perala explained, “We do positive reinforcement training at the Lake Superior Zoo. Otters move very quickly. So we’re going to try to get them to hold still.”

This way they can participate in their own healthcare- whether it’s getting them to go on a scale or going into a tube to allow care staff to administer an injection.
