The Arrowhead Library System’s Bookmobile makes trips all around the Northland bringing books and resources to people who sometimes don’t live near a library.

Jim Weikum is the Executive Director. He explains some of the resources available, “It’s basically a popular collection so a lot of popular fiction adult, young adult, children, non fiction, picture books. We have a lot of DVDs. We have books on CD. And we have a new thing, called VOX picture books for kids, where they can listen so it’s got that literacy component.”

The bookmobile runs on a three week, rotating schedule. The have about 58 stops that they cycle through.

Jim says this can be a blessing especially in small communities, “We hear how glad they are to have the service. Some of those places are a little remote. What’s fun is some of those places are a very rural and the neighbors don’t see each other because they live miles and miles so the bookmobile serves as a social meeting place.”

The Bookmobile also offers children and families the opportunity to participate in both Summer and Winter reading programs, and the Bookmobile also participates in many of the “Take & Make” projects that our agency provides courtesy of the MN Arts & Cultural Heritage Fund dollars.
