Cutest Puppy Contest
What more could you want on a cold January Saturday than a Cutest Puppy Contest? The Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon is again putting on the contest at Fitger’s. Show up there to pet puppies and vote for your favorite. It’s free to attend, but please leave your own pets at home.
John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon start
The John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon begins at 10 a.m. Sunday. Nearly 60 teams and mushers will take off from Billy’s Bar, headed either 40, 120 or 300 miles up the North Shore. There are shuttles running from Lot W at UMD.
Icebox Days
At the border, it’s Icebox Days in International Falls. It’s the 43rd year of the event. Activities include the “Freeze Yer Gizzard Blizzard Run,” kids’ games, a toilet seat toss, fireworks and more.
Lake Superior Ice Festival
Superior is also embracing the ice this weekend. It’s the free Lake Superior Ice Festival on and around Barkers Island. See the ice sculptures, enjoy local food and drinks, and bring the kids for indoor activities Friday and Saturday.
