Kevin Kalligher, a realtor for RE/MAX Results, answers some of the most common questions about buying a home.

I’m ready to buy a house. What do I need to do next?

Kevin says the answer varied based on experience:

First time home buyers should start by getting preapproved with a lender. Then figure out their buying power and price point. Make a list of needs/wants like location, bedrooms and bathrooms.

Move up buyers and downsizing buyers will be more needs based.

Those relocating will often ask about school and the amenities of the city.

How’s the market?

Kevin says it depends on what sector you’re in, “We’re rounding into the tail end of our busy season. The majority of home sales happen between March and August as we get closer to the end of the year we’re going to see more and more inventory.”

What are the interest rates?

Are people still waiving home inspections and are we seeing multiple offers?
