Tech Bytes: Biden administration wants removal of early termination fees

The Biden administration wants to ban early termination fees for cutting cable services, Tesla will start charging drivers extra for charging batteries beyond 90%, and Sonos is planning to roll out a string of new products.

A hated junk fee may end up in the garbage. The Biden administration wants to eliminate early termination charges for cable and satellite services. Companies would also be required to give prorated credits. The FCC votes on the proposal next month.

Tesla will start charging drivers an extra dollar per minute, to charge their electric vehicle batteries beyond 90 percent. But that additional fee will only kick in when charging stations are “busy”. What is still unclear is when a station will be declared “busy.”

Sonos is preparing to roll out a string of new products, including its first-ever headphones. Bloomberg says they’re high-end, over-the-ear headphones. Sonos may also release wireless earbuds, a TV streaming device and the company’s second generation portable bluetooth speaker.
