Rubber Chicken Hat Plays 20th Anniversary!

Saturday, June 24 at 7:30pm at Harbor City International School Theater, Rubber Chicken Theater will present eight world-premiere plays, all created in just 24 hours, with The Chicken Hat Plays, 20th Anniversary Edition. Seating is general and tickets are $20 per person.
The Chicken Hat Plays are an intensively creative day of theater. On Friday night, eight writers draw Who, What, and Where prompts from various hats, then go and write up a ten-minute script that incorporates those elements. On Saturday morning, directors and actors show up at Harbor City, along with the very tired writers. The directors then draw their scripts and their casts out of more hats and the fun begins. The directors and actors rehearse all day, finding whatever props and costumes they can along the way, and at 7:30pm, all eight shows are debuted to an appreciative audience.
The Chicken Hat Plays have been popular with local theater artists, and audiences, since the concept was introduced in 2003. Writers, directors and actors from groups all over the Twin Ports come together, including Rubber Chicken Theater, Colder by the Lake, Renegade, UMD Theatre, St. Scholastica Theatre, UWS Theatre, County Seat Theatre, the Duluth Playhouse, the Duluth Central-Denfeld-East-Hermantown-Harbor City high school theater departments…even artists from the Twin Cities have made the trip north to take part in all the fun of The Chicken Hat Plays. This unique concept provides these artists with the opportunity to create their own brand of original theater, oftentimes making for unique collaborations that might not otherwise happen. For example, a St. Scholastica Theatre instructor might direct UWS theater students, professional performers from the Twin Cities might get a chance to create theater with area high school students, or a Rubber Chicken actor might be in a play written by the mayor of Duluth.
