A major street reconstruction is coming to Superior and tonight the public got a chance to share their thoughts and opinions.

Plans for the reconstruction of east 5th Street are being put together. The section being re-done is between 24th and 31st avenues east.

Dan Hinzmann, with SEH engineering and consulting said fixing this stretch has been a long time coming.

“The road’s pretty degraded,” Hinzmann said. “We really need to tear it up, give it some new life. As part of that process, we are engaging the public tonight to really understand what’s important to them and what parking needs there are. What on street or off street facilities are really going to help provide the best project for the community.”

Full excavation and replacement of the roadway will be done including a new drainage system to extend the life of the new roadway.

Hinzmann said a primary goal will be to improve all forms of transportation through this corridor while considering the character of the neighborhood.

Construction will begin in the spring of 2025. you can submit comments regarding the project on the city of Superior’s website.
