Traffic switching soon in Twin Ports Interchange Project

As the Twin Ports Interchange project continues, expect more traffic changes starting this weekend.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation says the newly-constructed northbound lanes of I-35 will open to traffic either on, or around, October 1.

Current northbound traffic will shift over to the new lanes, and the northbound on-ramp from 27th Avenue West will also open.

MnDOT says current southbound traffic on I-35 will remain open on the lower Michigan Street bypass until October 17, and will then be rerouted onto the new southbound pavement.

The agency says once completed, this project will enhance safety by eliminating blind merges and left exits, replace aging infrastructure, and better accommodate freight movements through the interchanges next to the Clure Public Terminal.

All routes connecting to/from I-535 will remain closed until November 2023. All routes connecting to/from Highway 53 closed until November 2024.
