The Duluth Salvation Army will launch its 2022 Christmas Red Kettle season at the Red Kettle Karnival at Bentleyville on Wednesday, November 9th, from 5-8 PM.

Participating organizations include Bentleyville Volunteers, The Duluth Salvation Army, The Boy Scouts, The Girl Scouts, The Duluth Police Department, The Duluth Fire Department, UMD ROTC, St. Scholastica Softball, and others providing activities for kids and adults.

The Boy Scouts will be baking cobbler in Dutch ovens over open fires, the Girl Scouts will provide everything needed to make S’mores on site, and Bentleyville will provide hot cocoa and cookies.

Nathan Bentley will light up the big centerpiece Bentleyville tree, outfitted with 150,000 computer-controlled lights LED lights.

In order to experience the once-a-year opportunity to walk inside the 40ft. base of the tree and experience the lights and music from the inside, please bring a new toy, 2 non-perishable food items, or a $5 donation.

“Nathan Bentley’s passion to help others is what started the Kettle Karnival tradition that kicks off our Red Kettle season every year. His efforts to support The Salvation Army throughout the Christmas season allow us the opportunity to turn around and give those gifts to the community during our distribution week. However, The Salvation Army doesn’t just fundraise and operate during the Christmas season; our work continues all year round, our work to Love Beyond Christmas” said Cyndi Lewis, Director of Development.

“We just cannot thank Nathan and the Bentleyville crew enough for all they do for the Salvation Army” said Captain Bryan Ellison, who along with his wife Teri provides leadership to the Duluth Salvation Army.

New this Red Kettle Season will be the Community Kettle. Every year, there are bell-ringing time slots that aren’t filled by volunteers. In those crucial hours, idle kettles do not bring in vital fundraising assets.

This year on every day of the kettle season (Nov. 12 – Dec. 24) the Community Kettle will be highlighted by a sign, and anyone who has a few minutes and the willingness to help can pick up the bell and start ringing. Keep your eyes open for the Community Kettle, and watch our social media to see where it will be every day!

They are also in need of drivers for the kettle campaign.

You can also sign up now for the Christmas Assistance Program, Monday-Friday, 1-4pm, till November 23rd. The Salvation Army is located at 215 S 27th Avenue West, Duluth.
