Superior City Council approves plan to begin construction on the ConnectSuperior fiber network

The Superior City Council voted to begin construction on phase one of the ConnectSuperior fiber network during a council meeting Tuesday night.

The ordinance was approved in a 7 to 3 vote.

The City of Superior may now the City of Superior, acting through the Superior Broadband Utility, may now start the process to design, construct, and operate a fiber optic system to provide broadband services in and around the city.

“We won’t compete with the private sector, we’ll merely own the physical infrastructure and let companies use it to compete for your business,” explained Superior Jim Paine before the vote. “This model has successfully lowered prices and improved service all over the country.”

Five million dollars has already been put aside for the project.
