Early morning fire destroys home in Makinen; Woman in Custody

Firefighters responded to a structure fire at the 6600 block of Wilson Road in Makinen at around 5:30 am Tuesday morning.

It began when deputies were dispatched to a disturbance call. When they arrived, they found a woman standing in a field near the home. A woodpile under a lean-to connected to the residence was on fire. The fire spread to the home with one person inside.

Deputies made contact with the man inside and he was able exit safely. The woman was taken into custody and is being held at the St. Louis County Jail pending further investigation. The house was considered a total loss.

According to the Northland Fire Wire, Makinen, Lakeland, Colvin, Palo, Fayal, Central Lakes and Gilbert Fire departments responded to the call.

St. Louis County Deputies were assisted by the State Fire Marshal’s office, Makinen Fire Department, Palo Fire Department, Colvin Fire Department, Fayal Fire Department, Lakeland Fire Department and Gilbert Fire Department.
