Structure fire reported at W. First Street in Duluth

Early Friday morning, the Duluth Fire Department received a report of a structure fire at a side-by-side duplex. At 4:42 AM, the DFD arrived at the home located at 2228 W. First Street.

Three adults, two dogs, and one cat were safely evacuated away from the fire. They are
currently without a home, but they are receiving assistance from the American
Red Cross. Damages to the duplex and items inside are estimated to be around $85,000. No injuries were reported.

Assistant Chief Dennis Edwards said the family was able to escape without any injuries thanks to their smoke detectors. “This family is safe, their pets are safe, and everyone is uninjured.
They were able to quickly call 911 and get fast assistance from DFD,” said DFD Assistant
Chief Dennis Edwards of the incident. “Anytime is always a good time to remind the
public to check their smoke detectors and make sure they’re in good working order.”

The Duluth Fire Department thanks the Duluth Police Department, St. Louis County 911 Dispatch, Comfort
Systems, MN Power, and the American Red Cross for their assistance in the response to this incident
