April is Donate Life month, and St. Luke’s hosted a special ceremony to recognize the importance of organ, tissue and eye donation. They held a flag raising ceremony to honor donors for their generous gifts of life and sight.

In 2022, three organ donors saved eight lives at St. Luke’s. Additionally, 16 tissue donors enhanced more 12,000 lives and eye donors gave sight to 21 people.

Brittney Kurhajetz, the critical care manager at St. Luke’s, tells us that the decision to be an organ donor is very important, “It’s a hard time losing a loved one, but knowing that their loved one still lives on within another- sometimes they’re able to get notes, messages, letters, meet in person and give a hug to someone… You know, we don’t get to see them physically, but they get to live on in another person and give someone else a second chance.”

You can register to be an organ donor online.
