Search continues for missing boater in Lake Superior

Crews are continuing their search for a missing boater in Ashland County.

The Sheriff’s Office said they responded to a call about an unoccupied boat that drifted ashore on Monday morning. This was at the end of Ackley Road.

They discovered it was registered to a John Stanslaski, who reportedly did not show up to work on Monday. Authorities said it is not common for him to miss work.

A witness reported seeing what could have been the same boat one day before, Sunday, and that he saw a man on board.

An air search began with multiple agencies including the WI DNR, National Guard, Coast Guard, and Enbridge, and continued until dark.

It resumed again on Tuesday, along with a water search.

The family has been notified of the search.
