National Recovery Month is a month-long nationwide celebration of recovery from substance use/misuse and is an annual awareness campaign aimed at spotlighting recovery throughout September.
In celebration, Recovery Alliance Duluth hosted a Recovery Walk on September 16, 2023, at Leif Erickson Park in Duluth. The family friendly event was open to the public and it included food, free event t-shirts, fun, community, and live music.
Organizers say Recovery Month reminds people in recovery and those who support them that no one is alone in the recovery journey. Everyone’s journey is different, but we are all in this together.
In an interview with WDIO Kaira, one of the participants had this to say “It was a very awesome event. It’s nice to see everybody that I know or used to know out in the streets and it’s nice to see them sober. Including myself, tomorrow I will be 60 days clean and that’s a really big step for me because I have had struggles with sobriety for a while now”.
