Parents can opt out of gender identity lesson in Superior

The Board of Education in Superior voted to keep the gender/identity curriculum as is for 5th graders, but parents can opt out if they want.

Some parents wanted it to be an opt-in lesson. Others said this is language that needs to be introduced at a young age, to prevent ignorance towards other students later in life.

It was a lengthy meeting, with plenty of testimony in front of a packed cafeteria.

It was Dr. Amy Starzecki’s original recommendation to keep the lesson as is.
