The North End Nightmare 5K brings a spooky end to the Young Athletes Foundation’s annual racing calendar.

Zach Schneider, the Marketing and Public Relations Director of Grandma’s Marathon, said the North End Nightmare 5K, began in 2019.

“This is a lot different from a normal 5K or a typical race that you might find,” Schneider said. “That’s kind of the fun part for us people that are just out here to have fun, get in the Halloween spirit.”

Schneider also said more than 500 racers braved the cold weather, with some even dressed head to toe in costumes.

“I think it’s funny because you talk about a bad weather race and I think we almost get more interest in that than good weather races,” Schneider said. “People are like, ‘We’re not going to let the weather dictate what we do. We want to come out. We want to say we were there.’ And these conditions today. It’s a bit windy and chilly, but other than that, these are pretty good for what we can expect this time of year.”

The funds raised go towards supporting the young athletes foundation, which benefit the community through a series of grants, scholarships, and kids’ programs.
