A new hotel is slated to be built off Sundby Road, near Kohl’s.

Some neighbors are against the proposal, and have signs in their yards that make that clear. A few shared with us they are worried about the additional traffic and change in landscape.

One man told us they learned it’s going to be more of an extended stay hotel, to help meet the needs of industries and their workforce.

The city’s planning commission voted the plan forward on Tuesday at their meeting.

Ron DeGrio, a longtime resident of the neighborhood, said that he wished the notification process was better.

The city said that residents get mailed letters for this kind of planning review, but the distance buffer did not capture neighbors living beyond a distance of 350 feet from the site.

Neighbors could still appeal the decision to the city council.
