Canal Park filled up on Friday with all of the runners and families excited about Grandma’s Marathon.
WDIO met some folks from Prior Lake.
Melissa Dahnke has run before. “This will be my 10th year running either the marathon or the half. Duluth is great. It’s at the beginning of the season, and it’s still chilly here.”
Her sister, Elisa Weckman, weighed in. “She inspired our brother to run as well. She got us all into it, and that’s why we run.”

First timer Phyllis Baker is excited to see the course. “I’ve never been to Duluth. This is awesome. I feel relatively confident. I’m going to go slowly so I feel good at the end so I can party. That’s my goal!”
Her friend and running buddy, Kathy Vance, has been here before.
“We have a cabin up north of Ely. I’d heard about Grandma’s. It’s such an incredible race, so well organized,” Vance said.
Both ladies are from Illinois.
